"Must Do's" in Lighter Maintenance

After a series of our market research on the most common causes for repair service, we have found that the following preventative maintenance steps will eliminate most of the need for repair service. Please take a few minutes of your time to read the following maintenance tips. These tips will reduce about 98% of your repair service need in using Prometheus lighters.

1. Please refill your lighter at least once a week if you use your lighter every day.
Prometheus lighters are refillable butane gas lighters. Like automobile, you need to refill the gas tank time to time. Otherwise, the lighters will stop operating. We recommend you to refill your Prometheus lighter once a week if you use it every day. However, if you use your Prometheus lighter more extensively than this, you need to refill the lighter more than once a week. According to our market research, when the lighter stops operating because of low gas, many consumers start tampering with the lighters (for instance, cranking up the flame adjuster or dissembling the lighter) rather than simply refilling it. Tampering with the mechanism of the lighter is a sure way to make your lighter malfunction. When the flame of your lighter gets low or weak, this is a sign of the low gas level and you must refill the lighter by following the instructions in the general maintenance section. After reading the refill instructions and if you are still not sure or have some questions, please ask your Prometheus dealer to show you how to refill the lighter properly.

2. Please do not frequently adjust flame height.
After you set the flame height adjuster at a proper setting, you do not need to continuously readjust the flame height setting. Low or weak flame is mostly due to the low gas and requires refilling - of course, low or weak flame needs the flame adjustment if the flame adjuster is set at too low a level. However, please refill the lighter when the flame gets weak or low due to the low gas level. Inside of the lighter, there is a built-in stopper which sets the maximum and minimum levels of the flame height adjuster. Please do not try to turn the adjuster beyond the preset maximum and minimum levels. If you force the adjuster to turn beyond the preset levels, you will damage the built-in stopper and your lighter will malfunction.

3. Please use double-refined butane gas when you refill your Prometheus lighter.
Butane gas refill cartridge sold at convenience stores are known for their impurity and clog up the lighter. We highly recommend that you use double-refined butane gas such as Prometheus butane gas refill cartridge for the best performance of your lighter. Prometheus double-refined refill cartridge are sold at the finest tobacco shops worldwide. If you cannot find any tobacco shops near you who sell Prometheus double-refined, butane gas, please contact us to directly order from us.

4. When refilling the lighter, please take air out of the gas tank.
When refilling the lighter, please take air out of the gas tank first by pressing the refill inlet valve with a small screw driver. You will hear a hissing sound when air is bled out of the gas tank. If the empty gas tank is filled with air, you will not be able to effectively refill the gas tank with butane gas.

5. Please wait at least 2 to 5 minutes to ignite the lighter after refilling.

You need to wait until the refilled butane gas reaches the room temperature. Right after refilling, the refilled butane is very cold. Before igniting the lighter, please wait until the refilled, butane gas reaches the room temperature.

6. Please prevent the flame hole from clogging up.
The number one cause for the malfunction of the lighter is the clogging of the flame hole where the flame comes out.  Please make sure that you do not carry your lighter in a dirty pocket.  Also, when you light your cigar or cigarette, please do not put them into the burning flame in order to prevent the ashes from falling into the flame hole of your lighter and clogging it up.

The picture on the left side shows what happens to the lighter when cigarretes or cigars are lighted too close to the flame holes.  The falling ashes clog up the flame holes of the lighter.

In lighting cigar or cigareete, light it with the top of the flame.  Put your cigar one inch away from the flame hole.  The best way to light your cigar is to light it with the heat from the flame but not with the flame itself so you will not scorch the cigar wrapper.
