In 2001, the Fuente and Newman families established Cigar Family Charitable Foundation. Inspired by the tremendous humanitarian needs of the children in Dominican Republic as well as the incredible generosity of the Cigar Family members, Carlos Fuente, Jr. developed the concept of Cigar Family Charitable Foundation.
In 2002, Cigar Family Charitable Foundation purchased 23 acres of land near Chateau de la Fuente to develop the first Cigar Family Community Complex. When its construction is finished, the complex will include a new school, medical facility, adult training center, youth recreational facility and more. The school opened in September 2004 and the rest of the complex is currently being constructed.
To date, Cigar Family Charitable Foundation has raised over US$1 million for the complex. Hundreds of thousands more are needed to complete the complex and pay for its annual operations.
Contribution
What sets the Cigar Family Charitable Foundation apart from other not-for-profit organizations is that all contributed funds go directly to charitable purposes. All administrative, legal, accounting and fund-raising costs are underwritten by the Fuente and Newman families.
