In order to raise funds for Cigar Family Charitable Foundation, in November 2004, Prometheus International, Inc. released the very special, limited edition boxes of Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars (also known as Opus22). Only 500 boxes were produced for the world in 2004, and they were sold out quickly. Thanks to your support, Prometheus International, Inc. donated $112.500.00 (the net profit from the sales proceed) to Cigar Family Charitable Foundation on December 31, 2004.
Given the resounding success of the 2004 release of “Opus22” (as many cigar collectors around the world call them), we have to decide to make the release of “Opus22” an annual event. The 2005 release of “Opus22”, which has a total of 22 FFOX cigars (same number as 2004), is serial-numbered and comes with a certificate of authenticity. It has 14 cigars in 7 rare and specal sizes, and 8 cigars from the classic sizes. Each cigar is packaged in coffin, which is printed with the year of release and the name of the cigar. Furthermore, for the first time, these cigars will be released with the second band signifying the year of release. This will definitely enhance the collectability of these rare cigars. |

After the harvest, the fresh green tobacco is hung in curing barns where their moisture is allowed to evaporate slowly. After over 6 weeks in the curing barn, the leaves gradually turn to a beautiful, rich shade of brown. The cured tobacco leaves are then fermented - after which they are aged for years before the Fuentes consider them ready for their finest cigars. Even though the cigars are made with aged tobacco, they have to be aged again after skilled torcedors rolled them. Carlos Fuente, Father and Son, age their cigars at least for four months before they release them from their aging room.
When the cigars are first made, they are in the embryonic stage in which their ultimate taste is still being developed. As they are aged, they go through the maturation. During the maturation, the filler, binder and wrapper leaves form a perfect unity and balance, and the taste of the combined tobaccos becomes even more enhanced. The cigars, which are aged for one year in an ideal environment, will taste far better than when they were first made. The taste of the cigar reaches its pinnacle as they are aged for longer years.
When you produce wine, you do not use aged grapes. You harvest grapes for that year’s wine. However, in case of cigar making, you use the tobacco, which has already been aged for many years. The year on the bottle of vintage wine signifies the year of the grape harvest. However, you cannot put the year of the tobacco harvest on the box of the cigars. There is a good chance that the filler, binder and wrapper leaves are all harvested in different years. The year on the second band of Fuente Fuente OpusX for Cigar Family Charitable Foundation signifies when the cigar was released. You can track how long these Fuente Fuente OpusX cigars have been aged since their release from the year on the second band.
After shipping the 2005 release in November 2005, we expect to ship the 2006 release in the fall of 2006. Until then, do not forget to age some of these vintage cigars even further, like fine wines, for added enjoyment in the future.
